My July TBR

I decided on my July TBR list . I still have to finish the Iron Fey series by the end of this weekend so I can start these books on Monday.
The Murder Complex is a debut novel by Lindsay Cummings. I saw this book book on tumblr and I picked it up because it seems really interesting.
The plot is set in this futuristic world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. Its about a 15 year old Meadow Woodson who lives with here family in Florida. A state that is run by an organization called the Murder Complex ( organization that tracks the population )  .
The reason why I picked up Fangirl and Cinder is really simple. These books have been on my TBR for a very long time now. I feel like everytime I decide to read them another book gets in the way. I have heard a lot of good things about all of these books so I feel like I will love them. I'll probably do a review for all the books I'll read in July.
I picked up The Night Angel series because it seems interesting. And ever since I read The Throne of Glass I really want to read more books about assassins. Not to mention these covers are amazing.
So those are all of the books I am going to read next month. I have two weeks vacation starting Monday so maybe I'll read more books then I thought but we will see. I'm going to do a wrap up post by the end of the month .
Do you guys have any books for your July TBR? If you have please comment in the comment box.

Book Review: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

˝A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.˝

˝We Were Liars˝ is a contemporary suspense novel. The writing style is something you need to get used to , but when you do you will love it . I loved the way the book was narrated. The story is told from the main characters point of view. It combines telling the story in real time with sort of fairy tale retelling´s.

For example :

˝Once upon a time there was a king who had three beautiful daughters.
As he grew old , he began to wonder which should inherit the kingdom, since none had married and he had no heir. The king decided to ask his daughters to demonstrate their love for him...˝

Cadence , our main character, tells the story  in this unique and smart way , about her family and the relationships inside it. I can´t tell you much abot the story itself because this is a book that is really worth reading . In my 24 years I have read many good books, but I can safely say that  this is one of the most brilliant stories I have ever read.

Lockhart does an amazing job in sucking you in the world of the privileged life of the Sinclair family. You get to experience all their happiness and  their troubles. You get to know the Liars. Group of four friends (Cadence, Mirren, Johnny and Gat ) who are part of the family in one way or the other ,who live on the private island of the Sinclairs at least once a year, during the summer....

˝Welcome to the beautiful Sinclair family.
No one is a criminal.
No one is and addict.
No one is failure.

The Sinclair´s are athletic, tall and handsome. We are old-money Democrats. Our
smiles are wide, our chins square, and our tennis serves aggressive .
It doesn´t matter if divorce shreds the muscles of our hearts so that they will hardly
beat without the struggle. It doesn´t matter if trust-fund money is running out; if
credit card bills go unpaid on the kitchen counter. It doesn´t matter if there´s a cluster
of pill bottles on the bedside table.
I doesn´t matter if one of us is desperately , desperately in love.
So much in love that equally desperate measures must be taken.

We are Sinclairs.
No one is needy.
No one is wrong.
We live, at least in the summertime , on a private island off
the coast of Massachusetts.

Perhaps that is all you need to know... ˝

Brilliant, absolutely amazing story that will make you feel all the emotions that you can possibly feel. This is one of those books that you don´t want to miss out on reading.
It is just ..... WOW!

MY RATING:
10/10

So go pick it up and read it you awesome bookworms. If you have read it you can always tell me in the comment box below what you thought about the book, but keep it spoiler free.

Book Review: Iron King ( Iron Fey series ) by Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase is a normal girl who is two days away from her 16. birthday. She lives with her mother , her stepfather Luke . Her mother married Luke sometime after her father disappeared.  From that marriage came Ethan , her half brother who Meghan loves very much.
She goes to school and has problems like any other normal teenager would have. Her best friend is named Robbie and he has been with her since as long as she remembers. He calls her ˝princess˝all the time, and he is sort of a prankster, but would do anything for her.

On the day of her 16th birthday everything changes. Weird things start to happen, her brother has been kidnapped and she learns that faeries and monsters are real and not just part of stories. And then her adventure begins...

˝Iron King ˝ is the first book in the Iron Fey series written by Julie Kagawa. It is a young adult fantasy/romance novel. This is probably the best book with faeries I have ever read. I love the fact that the characters are from the Shakespeare´s  A Midsummer Night´s  Dream .

First thing , before you start reading this book, is to cast aside all of your knowledge about fairies. The fey in this story bargains, makes deals and helps you only when they have some use for it. These are not your Tinkerbell type of fairies. I actually imagined them to look like the elves from LOTR. Some of them are good and some of them are bad. But if you make a deal will them they will see that the deal is fulfilled.

Characters:

Meghan Chase:
A normal girl with a normal life. On her 16th birthday strange things  start to happen and she finds out that there is more to her than she ever thought was possible. She is the daughter of the faery king Oberon, so that makes her half human and half faery. She goes on a mission with Puck, Ash and Grimalkin to save her brother who was kidnapped by the Iron Fey.

Robin / Puck Goodfellow :
He is Meghan´s best friend in the human world , but he was sent from the Summer court to protect her and keep her away from the Fey world. He is one of the heroes of the story. I think he feels more about Meghan than she does for him.
He is one of my favorite characters, he is funny, and sarcastic and I loved the way he protects Meghan. He is just an awesome character.

Prince Ash:
He is the youngest son of queen Mab of the Winter court. He was sent by his mother to catch Meghan and to bring her to the court so she can use her as a weapon against Oberon. He makes a deal with Meghan that he will help her save her brother and defeat the Iron King but after that she has to come with him to the Winter court. On their journey through the Nevernever he falls in love with Meghan.
I really did not like him in the beginning  . He was pretty emotionless and somewhat cruel, but by the end of the book I fell in love with him . Not to mention the fact that he is beautiful ;)

Grimalkin:
As he said:  ˝I am a cat. ˝
Grimalkin i s a talking cat that Meghan meets when she ends up, after being chased by a wild hunt , on a tree in Nevernever. He helps the group a lot during their journey. I kind of see him as Yoda or Gandalf. He is wise and smart but also sarcastic. He can be funny. And I loved how he sort of makes fun of Meghan for not knowing anything about the Fey world.

MY THOUGHTS:

As I already said, I loved the story, I loved the writing style and the world building. I am impressed how well Kagawa described the world of Nevernever and all the characters and the scenes in the book. To me , writing style is important. I feel that a bad writing style can ruin a good story. And Kagawa is an awesome writer. She made you feel like you were there.

The story is so interesting and unique to me because I haven´t read that many fairy books. The villain was awesome, although I fell like there is more to that story than we can see in this first book. I think that the Iron King was just one of the villains , but hopefully I´ll see that in the sequel.
I loved the romance in this book. Now if you know me at all you know I love a good romantic back story. I don´t really like it when the romance takes over, and I was really happy to see how well romance was done in this book.

In conclusion, this book is fast paced, interesting, with a well build story and amazing characters. If you haven´t read it yet I definitely suggest you do it soon because you won´t regret it. The only thing I regret about getting into this story is the fact that I haven´t done it sooner .

MY RATING: 10/10

Book review: Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki

˝I´m buried six feet under, and no one hears my screams.˝

I heard about this book on youtube and it got some amazing reviews by Benjaminoftomes  so I decided to pick it up and I am so glad I did. This is a dystopian novel and the first book from The Sinners series.
In this world rules the Commander. No one knows how he looks like or who he is but he has some strict rules on how a person should behave. If you are accused of one of The Seven Deadly Sins ( Seven Deadly Sins / Brand color :  Lust - Blue, Gluttony- Orange, Greed- Yelow, Sloth- Black, Wrath- Red,  Envy - Green,  Pride- Purple ) .You are captured, branded by color and sent to prison called The Hole.

I pictured The Hole as a city by itself. They have their own rules, it´s really hard to live there, not just because of the guards who can shoot you on sight but because of the other Sinners who would do anything to get a bit of food , clothing or something else. Any romantic relationship between the guards and the Sinners is punished by death.

The main character is a girl called Lexi. We meet her in the first chapters when she tries to commit suicide but then decides that she is not going to end her life in memory of her father. In the same moment when she decides she is going to live the guards come to take her to The Hole. She has been accused of one of The Seven Deadly Sins : Lust . When she arrives to The Hole she is Branded in Blue, which is the color of Lust. Now the ¨branding˝ is sort of tattoo that you get around your neck in the color that represents the sin that you are accused of.

After all the exams etc she is placed with a guard who´s job is to make sure she settles in the surroundings of The Hole. His name is Cole and in the book he becomes her love interest ( This happens actually pretty fast ) which is complicated by the fact that guards and Sinner can´t be together or they will be executed.

A lot of things happen in the course of the book and I am not going to write all the details because I wan´t you to actually read the book. In short version Lexi is placed to work at the only hospital in The Hole that is run by dr. Sutton, there she becomes friends with the little girl ( this was one of the most emotinal parts of the book for me, I loved their relationship) , her relationship with Cole becomes stronger and a lot more. A lot of fighting, romance, unexpected events etc.

MY THOUGHTS:

This  book is really, really good. I absolutely loved it from the first to the last page. It is exciting, it´s  funny, it will make you angry, it will make you cry . I loved the characters . I was a little annoyed by Lexi in the beginning but by the end of the book she was so strong and developed as a person, it was amazing. Cole.... Oh Cole. Now if you know me you know I have a week spot for fictional characters and this is one of the most amazing ones. Everyone needs a Cole in their lives.
I loved his dog Zeus , he is such a funny and brave dog.  I really liked the world building in this book. The ending was so good, I did not expect that kind of ending. I absolutely loved everything about this book and I am really looking forward for the rest of the books in the series.

So my fellow bookworms if you love dystopian novels, if you love awesome characters and a good romance pick these book up you will definitely  not regret it.

I give it : 10/10
